  • The nickname RG3 was coined by a local sportscaster in Waco when Robert was in high school.
  • Robert finished his two varsity seasons at Copperas Cove High School with 41 touchdown passes and 32 touchdown runs. The team was 24–4 when he was the starter.
  • Robert was ranked the #1 prep hurdler in the country as a high school senior.
  • In 2007, Robert was named to USA Today’s All-USA Track and Field team.
  • Robert’s 479 passing yards and 551 total yards against Oklahoma in 2011 both set school records.
  • Robert was just the third Baylor player to figure into the Heisman Trophy voting. Don Trull (1963) and Larry Isbell (1951) were the first two.
  • Robert was the first Heisman Trophy winner since 2007 not to appear in a national title game.
  • Robert won the 2011 Davey O’Brien Award as the top college passer. He was also Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team All Big 12.
  • Robert set more than 50 team records at Baylor, including career passing yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage.
  • Robert was the second Baylor quarterback to be taken with second overall pick in the NFL draft. The first was Adrian Burk, in 1950.
  • In Washington’s 31–6 win over the Phildaelphia Eagles in 2012, Robert had a perfect QB Rating of 158.3. He became the youngest player in history to do.
  • Robert is the first NFL player to wear a Roman numeral on his jersey: Griffin III.
  • Robert was the second Baylor player to won a major Big 12 Award. In 2006, future Steelers punter Dan Sepulveda was named Special Teams Player of the Year.
  • Robert graduated from Baylor in three years with a Political Science degree and an A– grade average. He plans to complete his Masters studies in Communications.
  • With endorsement deals from adidas, Nissan, Gatorade and other big brands, Robert earned more money before throwing an NFL pass than any quarterback in history.
  • Robert’s great-grandmother, Evelyn Ross, was a victim of Hurricane Katrina. She lost her home on Music Street and never moved back.
  • Robert and his sisters lived with their grandparents in New Orleans in 1996 and 1997 while their father was stationed in South Korea. Later, in 2003, Robert Jr. was deployed to Iraq.
  • During his career at Baylor, Robert wore a jersey that said Griffin III to distinguish him from another Bears player named Robert Griffin.
  • Robert’s father earned a Master’s degree at Texas A&M and now counsels returning vets from Afghanistan and Iraq.
  • Robert is the first starting NFL quarterback to be born in the 1990s.
