- Michael scored a goal in
his first game with the Mold Alexandra Under-10s, a 2-0 win over local
rivals Bagilt. He still has the shoes he wore that day.
- Michael's two-year
total of 97 goals for Deeside in the Under-11s shattered the mark
of Ian Rush,
who had previously scored 72. During his time with Liverpools
reserve team, Michael broke all scoring records set by Robbie Fowler.
- Michael has always had a
flair for the dramatic. He netted goals in his debuts with England's
Under-15s, Under-16s and Under-18s.
- Michael has had a steady
girlfriend, Louise Bonsall, for several years. They live in a home just
a mile away from his parents, and are expecting their first child in
April of 2003.
- When Michael made
his senior team debut in February of 1998, he became Englands
youngest player ever at 18 years and 59 days.
- Michael netted his first
senior international goal in May of 1998, in a tournament leading up
to the World Cup.
- Michael is one of only two
English players to notch a hat trick in World Cup qualifying. The other
is British soccer icon Geoff Hurst.
- Michael made his
acting debut in 2000, in the television drama, "Hero to Zero."
- Michael scored one of Liverpool's
goals in a 2-0 shutout of powerhouse Manchester United to win the FA's
2003 League Cup. It was the team's seventh such title, establishing
a new record.
