• As a little boy, Mike slept in his uniform after T-ball games.
• Mike was named New Jersey’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009.
• Had Mike not signed with the Angels he was committed to attend East Carolina University on a baseball scholarship.
• Mike is the second Angel to be named Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America. The first was Tim Salmon, in 1992.
• Mike starred in the 2010 Futures Game, going 2-for-4 in the USA’s 9–1 win. He was picked for the 2011 game but was called up by the Angels instead.
• Mike was named his sport’s top prospect by MLB.com and Minor Leaguer of the Year by Baseball America in 2011.
• Mike’s first big league hit was a bunt single of Michael Pineida of the Seattle Mariners.
• In 2011, Mike became the youngest player in Angels history and the seventh-youngest position player in American League history to be named an All-Star.
• Only two players since 1900 have had a batting average of at least .343, a slugging percentage of at least .551, and at least 10 homers and 23 stolen bases through the first 60 games of a season: Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson in 1985 and Mike in 2012. 
• In 2011, Mike became the first player in Angels history to log at least 10 homers and 25 stolen bases before the All-Star break. His 26 stolen bases tied the team’s rookie record before the All-Star break, set by Jerry Remy in 1975.
• Mike is actually the second major leaguer to graduate from Millville HS. Apples Lapihuska (Class of 1940) pitched two seasons for the Phillies during World War II. Another grad, Steve Romanik, was a backup quarterback for the Chicago Bears in the 1950s.
• After Mike made it to the majors, the Millville High Thunderbolts began a tradition where the team’s best player gets to wear his old #1 jersey for the season.
• Mike was the first teenager to reach the majors since Justin Upton in 2007.
• During his brief stint with the Salt Lake Bees in 2012, Mike scored from first base on a routine single. His mad dash became an Internet hit.
