Joey Harrington

  • Joey finished his high school career with more than 4,200 yards and 50 TDs rushing and passing. In all, he started 26 games.
  • At Oregon home basketball games, Joey would lead the student cheering section by dressing up in a flowing red wig with a troupe called the Mac Court Mullets.
  • Joey’s teammates liked to kid around with him at Oregon. One of his nicknames was Princess (because no one was allowed to touch him during practice).
  • One of Joey’s cousins is professional golfer Padraig Harrington. He followed him during the third round of the 2002 Masters, but decided not to introduce himself after Padraig double-bogeyed number 18.
  • Joey posted a grade average of better than 3.0 at Oregon.
  • Joey has a huge extended family. For his home games at Oregon, his parents regularly chartered a bus to take some 55 family members and friends to Eugene.
  • Joey gets motivated before games by listening to the tunes of Herbie Hancock, the Dave Matthews Band, and Harry Connick, Jr.
  • Joey wears uniform #3 in honor of Joe Montana.
  • In his third NFL start, Joey set Detroit records for rookie quarterbacks with 41 attempts, 25 completions and 309 yards.
  • If Joey is named to the Pro Bowl during his Lions career, he will be the first Detroit quarterback to make the trip to Hawaii since Greg Landry in 1971.
  • Joey has appeared in concert with John Popper of Blues Traveler and Jason Mraz, and once played the national anthem on a baby grand piano before a Portland Trailblazers game. He has restored a 1903 Baldwin piano that his great-grandmother played in Vaudeville shows.
  • Joey shares a condo in Detroit with Steve Bramucci, a boyhood friend and aspiring screenwriter.
  • Joey’s brothers also play football. Michael was the backup quarterback at Idaho, and Nick starred at Central Catholic as a receiver.
  • Joey was named one of “Hottest Hunks in the U.S.” in the November 2003 issue of Cosmopolitan. His comments in the magazine about what he finds attractive in women (“Soft cheeks are so appealing.” ) got a rise out of his teammates, who teased him unmercifully.
  • Joey helps disadvantaged children through the Harrington Family Foundation. The organization’s official web site is located at www.joeyharrington3.com.
