  • A.J. was the point guard on his high school varsity basketball team as a freshman.
  • A.J. averaged 40 yards a punt as a senior in high school.
  • In high school and college, A.J. patterned his game after that of Zach Thomas.
  • A.J. roomed with center Nick Mangold at Ohio State. Mangold now plays for the New York Jets.
  • A.J. led the Buckeyes in tackles in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
  • A.J. hit so hard in practice at Ohio State that the coaches sometimes hid his helmet to keep him off the field.
  • A.J. was the first Buckeye since Chris Spielman to notch 20 tackles in a game.
  • A.J. was the third Buckeye to be taken by Green Bay with its first draft pick. The first was John Brockington in 1971.
  • A.J. was only the second linebacker taken with a Top 5 draft pick since 2000. Lavar Arrington was the other.
  • In a 2006 game against the Seattle Seahawks, A.J. had 20 tackles.
  • A.J.’s 155 tackles in 2006 were the second-most ever by a Green Bay rookie. Rich Wingo had 166 tackles in 1979.
  • A.J. finished third in the 2006 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
  • A.J.’s 86 tackles in 2008 were tops on the Packers.
  • A.J. led the Packers with 111 tackles in 2010.
  • A.J. made his 550th career tackle in 2010, his fifth NFL season. He has averaged 101 tackles per season.
  • A.J. and Laura were married in a civil ceremony prior to his first training camp. They held a full-blown wedding after the 2006 season.
  • A.J. has a hyperbaric chamber in his home to help increase his endurance.
  • A.J. wears his hair long to honor Pat Tillman, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005. Tillman was A.J.’s favorite player as a teenager.
  • A.J.’s brother Ryan still holds the Centerville record with 36 points in a football game.
  • A.J.’s locks are not the longest on the Packers. That honor goes to Clay Matthews.
  • A.J. has broken his nose several times. One reporter called it a nose “only a mother could love."
  • A.J. once took batting practice with the Milwaukee Brewers and hit a couple of home runs.
  • A.J. majored in criminology at Ohio State. He stayed in school through his senior year (and missed a Packers minicamp) in order to get his degree.
